She started up the 'Orange Rocks' Facebook page three years ago after a trip to the UK left her feeling inspired.
"They were doing Royston Rocks over there in Cambridge and I was painting rocks with my nephew," she said.
"I thought it was a fantastic idea so I came back to Orange and looked up to see if there was already a page or anything going on. I could find a NSW Rocks but there was nothing here in Orange.
"I decided that I would start painting rocks and hiding them around town for kids to find."
Right from the start, she knew she was on to a winning idea.
"I had mums saying that it was such a great idea and they were sharing pictures of themselves and their kids with the rocks," she added.
"Not only does it give me the mindful activity of painting rocks and getting the joy of actually doing it, I get the exercise of going and hiding them.
"But I also get the joy of having the children's smiles when they find one of my colourful rocks."
Ms Jefferis hides them near the Botanical Gardens, in the Adventure Playground in Cook Park as well as Elephant Park.
"Other mums do join in and do activities with their own kids over the school holidays and go and hide the rocks themselves. It's definitely a community activity," she added.
"It's mainly every school holidays that I'll do an event, but this Christmas I intend to do an advent calendar of rocks where I hide one each day of December."
