But for Tyson Hannus and his Orange Tigers tier two teammates, that was exactly the case over the weekend.
The Tigers took on competition powerhouse Parkes Panthers who over its first three games of the year had scored 392 points and allowed just four.
It won't take a master mathematician to work out that the Panthers hadn't even allowed a goal in those three wins either. Cue Tyson Hannus.
The full forward said his major provided a boost for the side.
"It was good confidence to keep them near 100 points and during the game when the goal was actually kicked I saw the boys lift really hard for the last 10 minutes of the quarter and it gave us really good momentum," he said.
"No one has kicked a goal against them this season, so we were hoping to bag a couple, but we got one so that's the main thing. At least someone's kicked a goal against them."
The score finished 1.3 (9) to 15.18 (108) in favour of the Panthers.
This leaves the Tigers tied on points with the Bathurst Bushrangers Outlaws in fourth.
Hannus believes his side can match it with almost anyone this year.
"I think we're going to be very dangerous coming up to finals," he said.
"The biggest thing being a coach this year was trying to field a side. Reserves didn't actually field a side a lot of the time last year.
"Just to have a group of blokes on the field each week is a win for me. To be winning games and to be stopping some of the harder teams from shooting away and absolutely slaughtering us is good. I'm finding that I've got a lot of young talent and a few old faces.
"I think besides Parkes, we're a great chance and even leading up to finals that we're going to really gel together as a team."
They will take on the Bathurst Giants at George Park when the competition returns on June 19.
The tier one Tigers side took on the Bathurst Bushrangers and were defeated 2.2 (14) to 9.13 (67), with Peter Byrne and Nick Modra the goal scorers. They will next play the Bathurst Giants on June 19.
