Cassandra Gracey suggested the idea of having some of the animals in their care paint pictures after she saw a video on TikTok.
"They get some enrichment and we get to spend a bit of one on one time with them as well," she said.
"And when they are adoption ready they get to take the paintings home with their owners."
Rex is a five-year-old Ridgeback crossbreed and is affectionately known as a "gentle giant with a heart of gold".
He has been in the RSPCA's care for a few months while waiting for an owner to take him in, so the painting came as a nice treat for him.
Ms Gracey said there are two different ways they are getting the animals into the artistic spirit. One is using their paws, and the other is having them like a plastic bag covered in food, with the bag itself covering a canvas with paint on it.
"We just want to show that they're not just another dog or cat coming through and that they each have their own personality," Ms Gracey said.
"It started three weeks ago and it's been pretty good so far. A couple of the owners have taken the paintings home with their new pets."
The Orange site is the only RSPCA in NSW currently undertaking the art project.
