On Saturday and Sunday, volunteers from the Salvos will go door-to-door and also be at Woolworths and Bunnings fundraising for the charity drive.
Orange and Bathurst Salvation Army officer Major Colin Young said all volunteers will have identification cards which the community should look for.
"If they don't have the volunteer ID, they're not genuine [charity workers] - which does happen, unfortunately," he said.
The more [money] we collect locally, the more we can do locally.
- Major Colin Young
Major Young added that Orange Salvos had already had a "really good start" to the Red Shield Appeal with a very generous donation from just one individual.
"The money we collect locally stays local, so the more we collect locally, the more we can do locally."
Community members can still volunteer for Sunday's Red Shield Appeal by turning up at Orange Salvos at the corner of McNamara and Kite streets at 9am. For more information, contact Salvos on 6362 1870.
