Emerson Drady had been working for herself and renting a chair at another Orange hair salon before she took over the business in May.
"I've been in Dubbo, I've been a hairdresser there for six years managing a salon," Miss Drady said.
Miss Drady said she moved to Orange to be closer to family and initially rented a chair before seeing Younique Hair on the market.
"There's six staff that I've kept and then mum and I are doing it all together," she said.
Although she's keeping the staff, Miss Drady said the salon will get a facelift on the June long weekend with repainting and new furniture as well as new signage.
Sustainable fashion
An Orange clothing designer has started an online business that combines his love of vintage clothing, reusing quality materials and creating unique designs.
Grant Buchanan started Hedly Heart in Orange and said he takes conservative but quality fabrics and gives it street credibility for a market aimed at late teens to people in their mid-20s.
"When I first left school I studied fashion at Tafe but then I never really did anything with it," Mr Buchanan said. He also trained as a hairdresser and worked in advertising but also worked for five years in a vintage clothing shop in Sydney and worked on theatre costumes.
"I try not to buy new fabrics so usually I source everything second hand," Mr Buchanan said.
He said many individual items were made to fit people of various shapes and sizes, and some of the clothes are also non-binary.
"I don't really agree that fashion should be divided into gender," Mr Buchanan said. He also makes custom clothing that is made to fit.
Collaboration
Just cuts and VERTO are collaborating to address a skills shortage and attract more apprentices to the trade.
Not-for-profit charity organisation, VERTO, will exclusively sign-up and register all apprentices at Just Cuts.
It is the first time in more than 30 years of operation that Just Cuts has employed apprentices Australia-wide
Just Cuts CEO Amber Manning said it will see 50 apprenticeship positions available in NSW salons.
The apprenticeships will be three years, including two years learning full-time at TAFE.
