Among those who took the opportunity to acknowledge National Volunteer Week were FoodCare, which has 60 volunteers.
The FoodCare shop is open from 10.30am to 1pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and from 4.30pm to 6pm on Thursday.
Committee president Bev Williams said there was a variety of tasks the volunteers undertake to ensure people in need are able to access low-cost groceries.
"We have obviously the shop volunteers then we have the volunteers who drive the bus for people who shop at FoodCare, and take them home, and then we have volunteers who rescue food from supermarkets," Ms Williams said.
"There would be some volunteers who have been there since FoodCare started, which was in 2012."
She said the volunteers came from all walks of life from former shoppers who wanted to give back to retirees such as herself.
"It's a great thing to do for the community," she said.
The only paid role was for a food coordinator who organises products such as milk and eggs through the Foodbank.
"FoodCare would be nowhere without volunteers," Ms Williams said.
The theme for National Volunteer Week was Recognise, Reconnect, Reimagine and Orange City Council also thanked its volunteers.
Mayor Reg Kidd said volunteers were the "bedrock of the community", and that 22 per cent of Orange residents over 15 years of age volunteered with an organisation or a group according to the last Census.
The council's services policy committee chairman Scott Munro said the week's activities included hosting a thank you afternoon tea for volunteers from the council's support service Choices at Home, which offers a range of services from delivering Meals on Wheels to taking people out into the community who may be socially isolated.
"Choices at Home coordinates social support programs such as the Men's Group, a community restaurant, as well as offering minor home maintenance for people, such as a gardening service," Cr Munro said.
"These programs are supported by 130 volunteers, who delivered more than 22,900 meals and supported 4250 hours of social connectedness for seniors."
