Sean Jamieson, of Oxley Place, pleaded guilty immediately to the break and enters and thefts after he was arrested at his home at 8am within hours of the offences. A stolen laptop bag, screw drivers, keys, a knife and $107 of cash was recovered.
According to police, the two men, jumped the fence at Glenroi Heights Public School broke into a cabinet containing gardening tools about 10pm on May 12.
They used a shovel to break into the office and stole a laptop bag containing a touch-screen laptop and a wireless key board and mouse, they also stole keys belonging to the school.
They fled when the alarm was triggered and at 11.46am smashed a back window at a vacant medical building in Kite Street but again triggered the alarm and fled.
At midnight they unsuccessfully attempted to force open a side-door at Lone Star Rib House and Brews in Summer Street before they went into the underground car park and smashed the glass doors leading to the City Centre escalators.
High-quality CCTV showed them jumping counters in the food court.
They stole slurpees from the machine at the Little Snack Shack, $5 in loose change and a kitchen knife from Indian Delight, a black chef's shirt from the sushi bar and $545 from the till at The Alley Lujiaoxiang.
Although Jamieson wore a black mask, he was not wearing the mask when he bought cigarettes at the 7-Eleven afterwards.
Solicitor Gerry Stapleton said Jamieson only turned 18 in March, was employed, and was coerced into the offences by the co-accused claiming they threatened his family. The co-accused has entered a not-guilty plea so will go to a hearing at a later date.
Magistrate David Day said Jamieson had no prior convictions but these are serious matters and a custodial sentence is required.
He gave Jamieson concurrent nine-month community-based Intensive Correction Orders, each with 30 hours of community service for the break and enter at the school, the break and enter at the medical centre, and the break and enter at the City Centre.
Mr Day also gave Jamieson a 16-month Community Correction with 50 hours of community service for disguising his face, and an 18-month CCO with 50 hours of community service for possession of housebreaking implements.
