However, where red tape seemingly stood in the way of council's two-decade long pursuit of a toilet block in Robertson Park, a minority of people and their loud voices are the ones now standing in the way of one of the most important developments in Orange being given the green light to be built in an ideal location.
Yes, Bloomfield is the best spot for this new sporting precinct for Orange.
Its proximity to town and the new southern feeder road give that site, adjacent to the existing Jack Brabham Park, easy access. The level nature of the land is also ideal.
But more importantly, being built next to Brabham will ensure the development - one that includes a complex featuring a 10,000-people capacity sports stadium with a rectangular field, an athletics track, cricket and multipurpose ovals - will be one of the biggest and broadest in regional NSW.
Few areas anywhere in NSW will have so many sporting fields all in the one area.
Having that kind of facility in our town will no doubt benefit the 8000 school children Cr Kevin Duffy highlighted in his story this week, but such a facility will also be a massive draw card for major sporting carnivals - which bring thousands of people to town, and in turn a massive amount of tourism dollars to the city.
Our cafes, our accommodation, our pubs, our shops; they're the ones that will benefit as well - in a big way.
This facility will have the capability to be used 52 weeks of the year, too.
I haven't seen any of the picnic brigade using this space at Bloomfield during the fine weather we've had in April, let alone the not-as-friendly winter days we'll enjoy in July and August.
Let's get on with it, our city desperately needs this.
