Those positions have just been advertised following the lodging of the field manager positions back in February, some of which have not yet been filled.
We want to recruit motivated people who are keen to tell their community's story
- Andrew Henderson, Census 2021
Census executive director Andrew Henderson said they needed 20,000 field officers across Australia.
"Helping members of the public who need special support to complete the Census is a key role for our field officers," he said.
"We want to recruit motivated people who are keen to tell their community's story through the successful collection of Census data. Previous experience isn't a requirement and training will be provided prior to commencing the job."
The roles are short-term and involve flexible working hours including weekdays, weekends and nights.
Field officers will be paid $24.80 per hour (inclusive of a 25 per cent loading), plus superannuation.
Workers will need to use their own car and computer or laptop as part of the job requirements.
The Census field managers will earn $36.90 per hour (inclusive of 25% loading), plus superannuation.
Mr Henderson said they needed to have experience in managing and training small teams.
He said they would be responsible for managing up to 12 field officers.
"The field manager is the eyes and ears of the Census on the ground, and in the community. They provide invaluable local intelligence to the office-based Census operations team," he said.
"They help members of the public who need special support to complete the Census. This includes conducting assisted interviews with people who request help or working through difficult questions from people trying to complete their Census.
"Field Managers will engage with non-private dwellings in their area, such as hospitals, hotels, and nursing homes to help residents in these settings to complete their Census form."
It will be conducted on Tuesday, August 10.
