Two people have been arrested and charged as a result of investigations into an alleged criminal network involved in the supply of methamphetamine (ice) and heroin between Orange and Tweed Heads, with more than $900,000 in cash and property seized.
Detective Chief Inspector Grassick confirmed a 46-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman have been charged with a string of offences, with police to allege the investigation uncovered money-laundering offences to the value of almost $1 million.
We're satisfied we have got the kingpin of this organisation. We believe we have dismantled this drug network.
- Detective Chief Inspector Bruce Grassick, Crime Manager Central West PD
"We're satisfied we have got the kingpin of this organisation. We believe we have dismantled this drug network as a result of these arrests," Mr Grassick said, with no more arrests anticipated.
"We believe [the 46-year-old male] is the main player in this. He has preyed on a regional community in order to try and earn his own wealth, a selfish act of flooding our community with illicit drugs - namely ice and heroin."
In January last year officers from Central West PD established Strike Force Macvitie, with investigations culminating in the man's arrest at a home on Paling Street in Orange at around 4.45pm on Wednesday, March 24. He was taken to Orange Police Station.
Five search warrants were then executed across Orange - at homes on Paling St, Dora St, Dalton St, Elizabeth St and Adina Cr - along with two more in the Tweed Heads area across Wednesday night and Thursday morning, with more than $17,000 worth of cash and property seized.
The man was charged with three counts of knowingly deal with proceeds of crime along with hinder police and was formally refused bail at Orange Local Court on Thursday, to reappear before the same court on May 17.
"Further inquiries were conducted in relation to the man's de-factor partner, who lived in the Tweed shire," Mr Grassick said.
"As a result of inquiries ... into her whereabouts [it was] established that she was moving down the Pacific Highway and we had assistance from detectives from Port Macquarie with a vehicle stop."
As a result of the coordinated vehicle stop near Lake Innes the woman was arrested at around 8.30pm on Thursday night, with police to allege $479,800 cash was located and seized following a search of the vehicle.
The woman was taken to Port Macquarie Police Station and charged with knowingly deal with proceeds of crime, she was granted conditional bail to appear before Port Macquarie Local Court on April 21.
"We're alleging that the proceeds of crime results to drug supply in the Orange area and beyond, we're alleging that they were involved with a number of associates in this area in relation to that drug supply network," Mr Grassick explained.
"We anticipate no further arrests will be made in relation to this matter (and) I'm not at liberty to discuss how the investigation kicked off, but I can say during the course of the investigation we received information that assisted us and allowed us to move forward.
"What is significant, as a result of these arrests we will allege [the man] was involved in the purchase of a property in the Tweed Heads shire worth more than $430,000 and the purchase of a jet ski.
"It's close to $1 million we are alleging was accumulated in relation to drug supply over a period of time, which equates to a significant amount of drugs that has made it's way into our community."
