Within 24 hours of Cumnock Show Society secretary Cassandra Roberts sharing the good news to social media, her post had been seen 20,000 times.
Before Covid forced both the show and lawn mower racing to be put on hold, there was always "lots of banter and friendly competition" among participants in the lead-up to the hotly contested race.
"Out in Cumnock we do it every year it and everybody enjoys it, it's like the main event," Mrs Roberts said.
"Christine Weston, a past Cumnock Show Society Secretary, brought the idea to Cumnock from her cousin from Bangalow where they started lawnmower racing."
The event had very quickly proved successful for Cumnock and now Orange showgoers will get to see why.
The race involves modified lawnmowers completing three circuits of a track, with the vehicles getting "to very fast speeds".
Orange Show Society publicity officer Brendon Argyle said the society was hoping to incorporate a number of smaller rural shows in 2021, particularly those who struggled to host their own due to Covid restrictions.
"We thought it would be a good opportunity to really support the show movement," Mr Argyle said.
"[The Orange Showground will have] a whole new layout with increased retail space," he added. "We're really excited."
The Cumnock Lawn Mower Race is on May 8 at 4:30pm. Entry is $5 and forms must be submitted before 3pm to cumnockshowsecretary@gmail.com.
