Mrs Townsend met with Australian Charities and Not for Profits commissioner Dr Gary Johns at the Bowen Community Technology Centre as part of his tour to learn more about select charities and not-for-profit groups across NSW this month.
She said the purpose of the visit was for him to learn more about the action group and technology centre and find out what they do and what problems they face.
"Every year we have to report to the Australian Charities and Not For Profits Commission and sometimes it's not as easy as you think," she said.
The meeting took place at a time when the commission is preparing to launch improvements to the charity register.
Dr Johns said the improvements that will come into play this year and will make it easier for people to search for not-for-profit groups if they don't know a groups name.
He said people could search for the type of group they were looking for and look at the options by locations.
Mrs Townsend welcomed the planned improvement.
"If someone is looking for technology like us it would make it easier to find," she said.
