It's two stories high, has 10 new permanent teaching spaces, a massive new library and its Park Street facade has been designed to blend in with the heritage look and feel of the school's historic buildings.
Not only will the new building be a significant improvement over the current wall of demountables scattered across the school ground, but the current buildings will also be refurbished.
From a functioning and teaching point of view, this is going to be our dream school.
- Principal Penny Granger
For principal Penny Granger the changes will revolutionise the way the school operates.
"From a functioning and teaching point of view, this is going to be our dream school," she said.
Currently not only do the majority of the students learn in demountables, but the staff don't have a designated area to work from, something that will be remedied once the new building is completed.
"We're going to get a big library, going from 98 square metres to 167 square metres," Mrs Granger said.
"The admin area will be upgraded, so staff will actually have space to work in and when the upgrade is complete the eight demountables will be taken away, giving us more playground room with links to Redmond Oval."
The building will feature large windows facing north to capture those rays of sunshine during winter, a far cry from the old dimly lit classrooms in the old building which will also be upgraded.
Member for Bathurst Paul Toole said that the building is an important project for the Millthorpe community, and an upgrade that will greatly benefit students and teachers at the school.
"We will engage the school community throughout the planning, design and construction phases of the project. The tender is expected to be awarded soon, and an information session will be held within the next couple of months to consult with the community on the revised designs."
Although work is expected to begin in the second half of the year, the completion date won't be announced until the final design is approved, the DA is passed by Blayney council and the tender is awarded.
