The Orange motor racing driver was back on the track over the weekend for the Australian Formula Ford Championship.
In the three races at Sydney Motorsport Park, Burcher racked up three second place finishes.
"Generally to start off a season with three second places is never a bad thing in hindsight," he said.
"But obviously being a racing driver you always want to win. We came a long way over the weekend as we struggled with the car set up from the beginning.
"We didn't really find the balance we were looking for the whole time. We didn't quite get on top of everything we were aiming for, but it's a really positive weekend overall."
A little bit of rust would be fair to assume, after Burcher spent most of last year on the side-line due to COVID.
But that doesn't mean he wasn't working on his skills.
"We do a lot of simulator racing and I've been involved in that since I was about ten," he added.
"I met some pretty cool people along the way. I got to do some 24 hours races at Le Mans and Spa online, racing with Scott McLaughlin, Brodie Kostecki and a little bit of stuff here or there with Anton de Pasquale. Just to be around people like that is a bit of a star struck moment.
"I was also able to take a big interest in my dieting and fitness. To make sure I was in the best possible position mentally and physically to be ready for whenever the opportunity for it to kick off again came."
The next round of the Formula Ford Championship will take place between May 21 and 23 and will also double as the NSW State Championship.
"I'm very driven towards what I want to do and my goals and I'll do anything I have to to make sure I'm in the perfect position," Burcher said.
"I train pretty well every day of the week and need to make sure fitness wise I'm in the best position.
"I guess the goal is to replace those three second place finishes with three wins and hopefully a clean sweep."
There are seven rounds in the series, with the final race taking place in December.
