Matthew Joel Forte, of Forbes Street, Cargo, was driving 70km/h in a 50km/h zone at Cargo, when he came to the attention of the police on November 1.
Forte returned a high-range reading of 0.233 at Orange Police Station at 11.05am.
Solicitor Rebecca Scott conceded that Forte had a drinking problem and had previous drink-driving matters on his record.
"He was pulled over at 10.15am and his reading was extremely high," she said.
"He had not actually drunk that morning but he had a very large intake of alcohol on Friday night, all day Saturday and Sunday night into the early hours.
"He had consumed multiple cartons of beer in that time."
She said on the morning of the offence he was driving two kilometres to collect a lawn mower.
