Merika McKellar, 24, of Jubilee Avenue, was still in possession of screws and the room key when she was arrested the day after the theft.
McKellar booked a room at the Royal Hotel and gave her name and mobile number when she checked in on February 16.
At 5.30pm she went to the counter and requested a refund then returned to her room.
McKellar then removed the TV from the wall and about 7.30pm she left the room with her luggage and the TV tucked under her arm.
She exited the building via the back stairway that led to the smoking area and walked through the back gate, which led into the Orange Central Square Shopping Centre car park.
She was captured on CCTV carrying the TV, which was worth $500.
McKellar was stopped by police for an unrelated matter the next day at 3pm and she was arrested.
While in police custody she was searched and was found in possession of 0.5 grams of cannabis wrapped in foil, a key for room 5 at the Royal Hotel, two Phillips head screws, two metal washers and three black plastic washers.
"I gave it away, I thought twice about giving it back, I just gave it away and that," she told police during an interview.
Magistrate Alison Viney told McKellar it was "not a particularly cleverly executed crime and that may have something to do with the fact that you were not medicated at the time".
She placed McKellar on a 12-month community correction order requiring drug and mental health treatment for stealing the TV. She also fined her $500 for cannabis possession.
