Following the first week of Council's kerb-side collection, mattresses were seen left on nature-strips by Central Western Daily readers.
Jamie Gibbs said: "I never got a brochure so my old mattress is staying on the curb [sic], if we stay strong and leave them scattered all over town the council will have to collect them".
Fellow reader Susan Sutton similarly claimed she never received a brochure from Council.
However, a Council spokesperson said that any mattresses left out the front of properties would not be collected.
"Some people may have made a genuine mistake and put out some items which were not accepted as part of the kerbside bulky-waste collection, such as mattresses. Any items not accepted by JR Richards have been left out the front of properties with a note explaining the item needs to be removed by the resident," the spokesperson said.
"Reasonable people will do what's reasonably expected and take those items back inside their home. Or take them to the Ophir Road Resource Recovery Centre using the free voucher each residence is entitled to.
"If any residents have questions please contact us by phone, email or our official social media channels."
The spokesperson would not confirm if mattresses left outside properties would incur a fine.
Council previously said that mattresses could not be collected during bulky waste pickup due to the extra costs involved.
"A separate pickup run... would of course be of an extra cost to the ratepayer," they said.
"It's also not something we can recycle in-house, it would have to be processed by another contractor, so again another cost to the ratepayer."
"The good news however is that we have vouchers available at OCC customer service that don't expire until June 20, 2021, which allows residents to take their mattress... to the Resource Recovery Centre for free. It usually costs up to $25 to dispose a mattress, so the voucher system is worthwhile."
Bulky waste will continue to be picked up from residences located to the east of Anson Street (also known as Section/Week B) until February 12.
Homes to the west of Anson Street (Section/Week A) will have their bulky waste collected from Monday, February 15.
A full list of items which Council will not collect during its bulk waste pick-up is available on its website.
