AFL Central West is celebrating its 40th season this year, a competition which started out as a single men's grade in 1982 with the Young Saints as premiers.
Since then it has expanded considerably over the years to now include two senior men's grades, one senior women's grade, four junior grades including a youth girls competition and Auskick.
In 2021 it will celebrate all clubs, from the now disbanded Coonabarabran Magpies and Forbes Cats, to the Bathurst Bushrangers, Bathurst Giants, Parkes Panthers and Orange Tigers who have all left a mark on Australian football in the region.
AFL CW are currently working on a number of initiatives to celebrate the competition's 40th year such as a heritage round - currently in a proposal phase.
In addition to the 40-year celebrations, the AFL CW competition will also celebrate Sir Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round, and R U OK? Round during the 2021 season.
But what may be the most exciting news of all, 2021 will also include the announcement of an AFL CW Hall of Fame with inaugural members being announced mid-season.
The Hall of Fame will formally recognise those that have contributed to Australian football in the Central West on and off the field, both in the past and future of the competition.
