Brendan Anthony Jeffery, 35, of Goorawin Road, got into an argument with a co-offender who came to collect a family member from his house at 1.05pm on December 16.
The co-offender is yet to appear in court.
According to a summary of information that was supplied to the court, the co-offender's family member refused to leave Jeffery's house and an argument started.
The verbal altercation turned into a fist fight out the front of the property with both men punching each other in the face causing minor injuries.
Both men were interviewed by the police and denied throwing the first punch.
Jeffery was not represented when he appeared in court.
Magistrate David Day convicted Jeffery and gave him a 15-month community correction order with a requirement he participate in rehabilitation and treatment programs.
He also ordered him to complete 50 hours of community service.
"You cannot let your fists do the talking, that's because if you get into a fight and knock someone down and they hit their head you won't be before me," Mr Day said suggesting Jeffery would appear in a higher court.
"If other people won't leave you call the police."
Mr Day said Jeffery pleaded guilty to the affray.
"Mr Jeffery has matters on his criminal record but they are related to driving matters," Mr Day said.
"This is a very serious matter though, it carries 10 years [jail] on indictment.
"There was actual violence between him and the co-offender."
