A WOMAN will face court after a police officer was assaulted in Parkes on New Year's Eve.

On Thursday, December 31, at approximately 3.30pm, an officer from Parkes Traffic and Highway Patrol approached a woman in a stationary Holden Vectra in the carpark of a fast food restaurant on the corner of Bogan and Grenfell Street.
As the male senior constable approached the 49-year-old woman woman and it's alleged she began verbally abusing him.
When the officer attempted to conduct a breath test, the woman exited the vehicle and allegedly grabbed him around the neck.

The senior constable was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Parkes Hospital where he received stitches.
The woman was also taken to Parkes Hospital with a hand injury.
She has since been issued a Court Attendance Notice for assault police, resist arrest and refuse breath test, and is expected to appear in Parkes Local Court on Monday, February 15.
