The storms brought down trees, damaged roofs and caused water damage.
The Bureau of Meteorology's official weather station at the Orange Regional Airport recorded 12.4 millimetres from 9am Monday to 4pm on Tuesday.
However, Central Western Daily readers recorded much higher falls in the city.
They reported falls in home gauges of up to 37mm in west and east Orange, 25mm in north Orange and up to 37mm in south Orange.
Lightning hit the electricity network knocking out power to 405 households in Orange during the first storm at 3.42pm on Monday.
Essential Energy Operations manager Macquarie Jamie Warren said the outages lasted for up to four hours.
"Crews worked as quickly as safety allowed and after completing repairs, power was restored to 103 customers at 6.23pm and the remaining 302 customers at 7.39pm," he said.
A second storm early Tuesday morning left about 30 households without power from 4.55am to 9am with a lightning strike also the likely cause.

The first storm at about 3.30pm on Monday brought heavy rain and disrupted the Towac Park horse race meeting.
The meeting was abandoned after only three of the seven races had been run.
A thunderstorm at 4am on Tuesday caused further disruption, bringing down trees to temporarily block Cargo Road and damage houses in the Clergate Road area north of Orange.
Power went out for about 24 residents in that area from 4.40am.
State Emergency Service unit commander for Orange Inspector Rob Stevens said crews attended about six jobs around Orange.
"There was a couple of incidences of property damage by inundation or having roof pieces removed," he said.
"Just to the north of Orange seemed to cop a bit, around Clergate Road."
Inspector Stevens said Cargo Road was temporarily blocked by a tree fall about half way between Orange and Cargo but it was soon cleared.
