Injuries and defensive lapses were two of the main causes of concern for Barnies, the former making Dawson's job a particularly tall order.
While it was a solid innings from Dawson, the side has decided to move on to another mentor and on Tuesday, announced the signing of their new man.
Introducing Josh Ward.
The 28-year-old has committed to Barnstoneworth United FC for the 2021 season after a stint in the Western Premier League coaching the under 20s men's and women's first grade sides.
He now takes the head coaching role at Barnies and can't wait to sink his teeth into the pre-season training regime.
"Developing players and improving their ability to execute football actions is what drives me, as well as the buzz that you get on the sideline on matchday," Ward said.
Like many other top footballers from around the region, Josh was drawn to the excitement building around the new Western Premier League, now entering its second season.
"Last year the WPL had games where anyone could beat anyone on their day," he said.
"This makes it exciting for everyone involved and is a great platform to showcase the talent that is on offer in the Central West."
Club president Wayne Stephens is just as excited as Ward, suggesting the signing only adds to what promises to be an extremely fruitful future for the improving club.
"Barnstoneworth United is a family club which is growing each year," he said.
"With the recent addition of our junior sides, the club has created a pathway for young players who we hope will want to play at the very top levels.
"We know Josh is the perfect choice to bring those players through the ranks and into top-flight football, such as the WPL."
Taking a look at Ward's history, he's notched some impressive accomplishments both at the playing and coaching level as he spent some time at Sydney to kick-off his career.

- Josh Ward.
He played for Western NSW throughout his teenage years and was signed by Manly United FC, playing in their under 20s and first grade NPL 1 sides.
"I love the memories and friendships that football provides," Ward said.
"Being able to play with your mates and work hard to win creates memories that last a lifetime."
In 2021 the WPL will be as exciting as ever, with matches to be live-streamed. Ward will now begin the task of putting together a Barnies WPL side for season 2021.
"I'm looking for players that have a desire to be the best versions of themselves both on and off the pitch," he said.
"I look for players that can positively impact a match and inspire their teammates as well." The team is expected to announce a date for a trial match in the coming weeks.
