This Saturday will mark the third instalment of the Ladies Colour Triathlon and Duathlon; a women-only event which doubles as a fundraiser for the Cancer Council to remember Sandy Ostini, who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2018.

The event will include a 200 metre swim, an 8.8 kilometre bike ride and a 2km run, or if you don't fancy getting in the water, you are able to swap that out for another 800 metre run.

One of the event's organisers, Megan Goodwin, said it is a nice way to remember Sandy's input into the club.

"It's designed to get women into the sport without that pressure and to get that feeling of accomplishment when you get across the line," she said.

All the money raised from the day will be going towards the Orange Cancer Council.

Between 50 to 100 people have taken part in the race during the first two years, and Megan is hoping that number remains the same despite the impact Covid has had.

"It's been a little bit hard to organise as we are a little restricted in what we can do," she said.

"So we are encouraging smaller family groups to bring a barbecue or picnic and stick around afterwards.

"Each year about a third of the people who participate are new, which is great to see.

"It's great to see people putting themselves out there. All the distances are short so it's very safe to give it a go.

"The goal is just for mums and daughters and school friends to come out and have a good time in the afternoon for a little bit."

Two of those who will be taking part are sisters Jessie and Molly Dean.

Jessie has taken part in each of the previous two events and has encouraged anyone thinking about having a go to give it a try.

"It means a lot considering it's an opportunity for young and old females to come and try something new," She said.

"Considering Sandy was a big part of our triathlon community it means a lot, especially to us as locals as part of the Orange Triathlon Club.

"Definitely come and give it a try. You can just do it with your friends, with your family and just great fun."

The event at Gosling Creek Reserve costs $5 for a child to enter and $10 for an adult.

Ladies can register right up until Saturday afternoon or online at the event provided they have their phone with them.
