Magistrate David Day presided over the hearing for the 38-year-old man, who is not named to protect the victim, and found him guilty of using his car as a weapon and of smashing the victim's computer.
He said the woman was fortunate she was able to jump onto the bonnet otherwise she would have been seriously injured.
According to witnesses who saw the incident from inside the Orange Local Aboriginal Land Council, the victim was standing on the other side of a fence that separated the building from the Woolworths' car park when they saw the man's car drive at her on July 1, 2019.
According to the statements presented during the hearing, the car appeared to speed up and drive straight at the victim who jumped onto the bonnet at the last moment.
The witnesses believed if she had not jumped she would have been squashed between the car and fence.
"There was no remorse shown, [he] defended this matter to the end," Mr Day said.
On Wednesday Mr Day also sentenced the man for smashing the woman's computer on June 30, 2019.
"He's going to become institutionalised if he keeps offending," Mr Day said.
"[He] has an appalling record."
Solicitor Nico Rump said the man had been granted bail, but his bail was refused in Lightning Ridge Local Court on October 22, 2019, and he had been in custody ever since.
"It's my understanding this is not the only matter for which he's been bail refused, [he] has three other matters," Mr Rump said.
"Whatever happens today, he will remain in jail bail refused."
Mr Rump said the man experienced hardship as a child and witnessed significant violence and abuse, drug and alcohol abuse that led to him running away from home and spending time on the streets.
"[Like] many people with this kind of background he started using drugs at a very young age to cope with the stress of the environment he was in," Mr Rump said.
He said the man started with alcohol and cannabis but went on to take speed, heroin and the drug ice.
Mr Day sentenced to man to two-years in full-time jail with a 12-month non-parole period for attempting to run down the woman with his car.
The jail sentence was back-dated so his non-parole period ranged from October 22, 2019, until October 21, 2020.
Mr Day took into account the more onerous conditions the man had experienced in custody as a result of being on remand with COVID-19 precautions and due to a safety issue the man faces in jail.
He also gave the man a two-year community correction order for smashing the woman's computer.
