On a bench sat Luke Ferguson aka JaFFer, a twist on the Jaffa confectionery, playing an acoustic guitar and singing blue-eyed soul.
"I got the nickname for my soulful sort of voice, and I'm a ranga," explained Mr Ferguson.
Nearby stood The Hip Replacements - Genni Kane, Jon Wilby and Gavan Wickes - harmonising on Crowded House's Weather With You.
The Hip Replacements and Amy Viola will appear at the first Future Tunes gig, on November 27.
The second concert, on December 18, has JaFFer and Neil Gill.
The third is on January 15 and features Gabe Music and Liv Mirrington.
Capacity for the free shows is strictly limited, and tickets must be booked through Ticketek.
The events, from 4.30pm to about 7.30pm, will have market stalls.
Cr Tony Mileto encouraged attendees to venture to local restaurants, pubs and bars after the show.
JaFFer, a bassist, has played with over 100 bands and has been a professional musician since he was 16.
He once almost met legendary Motorhead bassist and singer Lemmy in Los Angeles at the end of 2015: "I missed out on meeting him by a day; I went to the place he frequented, he had his own seat; a mate of mine who knows him took me there, but he'd died the day before."
Without gigs to play, Mr Ferguson has spent much of the year making videos and teaching bass online.
