Grant Willatt, 39, of Ithica Road, Elizabeth Bay, drove a Toyota Hilux ute at speed along Bathurst Road about 1am on July 30.
"Yeah I'm over mate," he said when police stopped the car in the McDonald's car park.
Willatt was arrested and taken to Orange Police Station for a breath analysis where he produced a mid-range alcohol reading of 0.146.
He told police he drank six schooners of pale ale at an Orange hotel between 6pm and 11.30pm that night.
Solicitor Mason Manwaring said Willatt was in Orange working as a builder at the new Bloomfield Medical private hospital and was celebrating the handover the night he was caught.
Mr Manwaring said Willatt had a problem with alcohol but had been attending rehabilitation and he attended the Traffic Offenders Intervention Program.
Magistrate David Day fined Willett $1650, disqualified his driver's licence for two months and ordered him to have an interlock device fitted to his vehicle for 12 months
"He's got a poor driving record, a matter from 2003 of a similar nature," Mr Day said.
