But first the Canberra Raiders five-eighth's focus is on helping the NSW Blues to a State of Origin hat-trick in his first game in Adelaide since under-11s.

Wighton was named in the NSW centres by Blues coach Brad Fittler on Thursday, the decorated Raiders' playmaker shifting wider to accommodate Luke Keary and Nathan Cleary in the halves.

The Bloomfield and Orange CYMS product will partner Clint Gutherson in the centres, the Parramatta skipper one of three Blues debutantes alongside prop Junior Paulo and Keary.

With a mounting pile of individual gongs, as well as last year's Origin series win, Wighton has his sights on claiming another medal in 2021.

"I'd just love to try and get that premiership for the club now. That's the big goal." he said.

Especially how the 2020 season ended - with the Raiders getting bundled out by eventual premiers Melbourne Storm in the preliminary final.

Getting knocked out of the finals race just a few days earlier made the medal win "bittersweet" for the Canberra playmaker.

The Green Machine made the grand final the year before and Wighton said they'd use another year of coming close to drive next season's campaign.

"Obviously it's something we're going to have to use next year to fuel us and retrain our focus," he said.

"But it's behind us. I want the boys to all enjoy their off-season and really put footy aside. It's such a long year and when we come back to training we'll re-address that and have a look at what's going on."

Wighton celebrated his Dally M Medal with dinner with family and friends, and then spent a couple of days relaxing before he went into the Blues' Origin camp.

He was unfazed by some of the negative comments after his barnstorming finish to the season saw him run over the top of favourite Nathan Cleary.

"It's good, it's sunk in a bit now. It's still one of them things you pinch yourself a little bit just because it's such a massive thing," Wighton said. "That's done and dusted now and it's on to the next job."

Raiders coach Ricky Stuart said the Dally M would be a launching pad for Wighton's Origin campaign.

But the former Blues coach didn't want to be drawn on where Wighton should slot in to the NSW line-up - he backed Fittler to make the right call.

Stuart (1993) and Wighton are now two of three Raiders to have won the medal, with Laurie Daley (1994) the other to claim the gong.

"I thought it was a wonderful achievement," Stuart said. "Being so young in his transition into five-eighth it's a wonderful confidence booster for him. He will have a lot more belief and confidence in his game as well."
