It is an effort to not only achieve better outcomes for those people and others involved such as family and carers but also to maximise their potential and participation in their surrounding communities.
The development of this National Disability Strategy is the first time that all levels of government have committed to a common approach and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has already provided significant improvements and successful outcomes for those involved.
Governments and the industry have committed to greater collaboration and coordination by all involved and the new approach is helping to guide policies and programs. The NDIS is really aiming to focus on two key factors:
1) Supports and services including the assistance or products that help a person in their daily life and help them participate in the community and reach their goals.
2) Planning and early intervention to help provide support to a person as early as possible and reduce the impacts of disability and build their skills and independence.
This Glovebox Guide to the NDIS is intended to give people a starting platform to find out information about the NDIS and how it works.
