Exterior colours have also changed, rooftop signage has been removed, the number of motel units has been reduced from 62 to 61 and the style of the roof has been altered.
Developers submitted plans for the site on Endsleigh Avenue and Kite Street earlier this year. However, after concerns raised by Orange City Council altered plans are now on public exhibition until November 13.
"In response to certain issues raised particularly in relation to building height and heritage, the proposed building has undergone certain design changes, essentially to address its bulk, height and scale," a report in the DA said.
It said council had requested removing the 'outdoor recreation area' and nine rooms on the top level to reduce the height. It proposed relocating the recreation area to a lower level.
However the new plans see the recreation area removed from the building but the nine rooms retained with a lighter look.
"The top level is now proposed as a clerestory/roof lantern element, that presents to Endsleigh Avenue with generous glazed walls and a floating roof," it said.
Exterior styling changes include adding brick cladding to better suit the surrounding area and adding 'French' balconies and louvre doors to each unit's window. However, due to safety regulations the balconies will not be accessible.
Under a one-way system cars will enter the building from Endsleigh Avenue and exit via Kite street.
