Vusi Sibanda, who has more than 150 international caps at Test, one-day international and Twenty20 levels, will open the batting for CYMS in its clash with Kinross at Wade Park on Friday night.
And the team will be further boosted with the return of Mick Delaney, who is also set to play some regular seasons games for CYMS.
Sibanda played international cricket for 13 years from 2003 to 2016.
That includes 14 tests, 127 ODIs and 26 Twenty20 internationals.
We will have him for as many games as he is available.
- Hugh Le Lievre, CYMS captain
The right-handed batsman and medium-pace bowler has played in both the ODI and Twenty20 World Cup tournaments.
CYMS captain Hugh Le Lievre said Sibanda had relocated to Canberra for work.
He said the 37-year-old Sibanda was captaining the Eastlakes club in the ACT first grade competition and was involved in coaching for Cricket ACT.
Sibanda has been encouraged to join CYMS through Delaney.
"He mentioned he was pretty keen to play in [various] competitions," he said.
Le Lievre said it was unclear whether Sibanda would be available for any more games.
"I don't know because the games are so spread out this year," he said.
"We will have him for as many games as he is available."
Delaney's big-hitting was a key part of CYMS' charge for the Royal Hotel Cup last season.
Back in January he hit 95 runs off 52 balls, including 11 fours and four sixes, to help seal victory over Orange City.
It followed a strike of 111 in his previous game against Centennials.
That came off just 61 balls.
However Delaney was out for only three runs in the semi-final and CYMS ultimately lost to St Pats Old Boys.
Le Lievre said after the team had reached the semi-final stage in recent years they wanted to go one step further and make the final this season.
"That would certainly be our goal," he said.
"Twenty20 is one of those games where you do need a bit of luck."
Le Lievre said they wanted to select a multi-skilled line-up instead of having to rely on individual efforts.
"We're picking a team where everyone from one to 11 can bat and bowl and field," he said.
CYMS last made the Royal Hotel Cup final in 2014-15 when it beat Cowra by 66 runs to claim the title.
It remains the club's only win in the competition after making the final at four previous attempts.
Kinross has played in one final, losing to Cavaliers in 2009-10 by five wickets.
So far this season Rugby Union has defeated Centennials Bulls with Ryan Peacock top scoring for Rugby Union with 90 runs.
St Pats Old Boys beat City Colts with Nic Broes top scoring with 61 runs and he also led the bowling with 3-12 off four overs.
Friday's game starts at 6.30pm.
