The apprenticeship program has been running for more than a decade, with more than 113 apprentices successfully completing their trades at Cadia.
Ms O'Brien said there's a variety of different paths people can take as an electrician.
"Cadia is really diverse and provides so much opportunity," she said.
"Like all trades there is always going to be bumps in the road.
"Being a female in such a male dominated trade can sometimes be a challenge but Newcrest is all for supporting women and equality which in turn eliminates any discrimination."
Ms O'Brien added she is offering advice for those interested in applying to not to doubt themselves.
"There is always challenges that even the most experienced tradesmen have to face," she said.
"I walked into this apprenticeship with no prior experience in the electrical industry and that scared me.
"But I have no doubt that by the end of my apprenticeship I'll be a confident tradesperson."
Cadia will be offering six new apprenticeships in electrical, fitter machinist, light vehicle mechanic, diesel/heavy plant mechanic and boilermaker.
The Newcrest Apprenticeship Program is now open and closes on September 30.
