That's why president Mark Frecklington is keen to push for a name change, officially re-branding the Mitchell Cricket Council the Central West Cricket Council in an effort to "give it more of an identity' in the lead-up to the summer.
The Mitchell name has long been attached to cricket in this region, with the council stretching from the Blue Mountains to Orange, Mudgee, Bathurst and Lithgow but Frecklington thinks a switch makes sense.
"Sometimes when we go to competitions we have people ask us where Mitchell is," Frecklington said.
"They ask us if it's from Canberra or other parts of the state ... we appreciate why the name initially went to Mitchell but we feel like the name's a bit vague.
"A lot of the other zones have their recognisable names like Southern Riverina and North Coastal. Ours is the only one that doesn't really relate to the region."
While the majority of the Mitchell Cricket Council is on board with the change moving forward, the switch will only happen if there's a three-quarter majority vote at the next AGM which is set to be held on September 21.
Another factor that has led to the proposed change is the name in which some of the juniors play under as the 13s, 14s and 15s fall under the Central West moniker at the Youth Championships.
Mitchell's Regional Bash side is also known as the Central West Wranglers.
"It was partly from that," he said.
"Those teams are already linked to the Central West in their name so that's part of the reason."
