His Orange Hawks scratched and clawed their way to a 4-2 win over Lithgow Workies in the Maas Group Western Youth League at Brendon Sturgeon Oval in conditions that can only be described as diabolical.
It took two penalty goals for the two blues to register their third win of the season as they remained in touch with post-season contention ahead of an enormous Sunday derby with CYMS in round six.
The victory was an essential one for Blimka's men after making it a goal following their loss to St Pat's to go unblemished for the remainder of the campaign.
"Our goal was to not lose another one," Blimka said.
"We got the two points and that's what mattered most to us. It was a scrappy dog fight for sure."
The Hawks have gradually been welcoming the return of their injured players throughout the last fortnight and were bolstered by the presence of Marlin and Mason Pollock on the weekend.
"It helps to get some experienced blokes in back into the side ... it lifts a lot of the other teammates," he said.
The sides went into the sheds at 2-all and from a coaching standpoint, it's hard to lend advice to your players when it's near-impossible to hang onto the footy.
"I just told the guys to be mentally tough and not break first," he said.
"I knew we'd get over the line if we showed that mental toughness and we did."
A draw looked to be on the cards for a large chunk of the second half but with 10 minutes to go, Workies gifted Hawks a penalty goal right in front of the sticks, a chance Blimka was never going to pass up.
"Normally you'd go for the try there but I just yelled out at them to take the two and backed our defence from there," he said.
Hawks will now turn their attention to Sunday's blockbuster with CYMS and after getting blown out by the men in green in their last meeting, the two blues want to make amends, in a big way.
"If we're going to do well in this competition, the game against CYMS is a must-win for us," the young mentor said.
"We've got a few more boys available this time around so hopefully we can get the job done and work towards the finals."
