Orange recorded its first case since May on Friday, with a student clinician at Orange hospital testing positive after visiting a hotspot in Sydney.

Ten close contacts of the student were put into isolation following their positive test, and those close contacts will stay in isolation until next week, with 14 days without contact as per NSW Health regulations.

A statement from Western NSW Local Health District on Wednesday confirmed all 10 close contacts had tested negative and would remain in isolation.

Orange has recorded 13 cases of COVID-19, with only one of those active.

"It is critical that everyone in all our local communities continue to practice social distancing to minimise the risk of the transmission of COVID-19," a Western NSW LHD spokesperson said.

"Right now, our message is very simple - if you have any symptoms, even mild ones, arrange to be tested."

Earlier on Wednesday, 12 new cases were announced in NSW and 725 in Victoria - with 15 deaths south of the Murray - while Queensland declared the entirety of NSW and the ACT as hotspots, with the border to close again from Saturday.
