Orange Eight Day Games honorary secretary Jason Lyne described Thursday's decision to call off the 2020 edition of the event as a 'heartbreaking' one as a 43-year tradition came to a cruel halt at the hands of the COVID-19 wave.

The tournament, which is usually scheduled for the last two weeks of November, attracts massive crowds from both inside and outside of New South Wales and with the volatility of the restrictions today, the committee found it 'impractical' to pencil in the event this year.
"It's just not feasible for us to run this year," Lyne said.
"I've been involved in the games since I was 18... so, 28 years. It's devastating for me.
"Calling up some of the life members has been very hard but they all understand the decision."
Not only has the news rocked Lyne, but it's set to impact competitors and supporters as a host of people book annual leave throughout the week every year.
"It's such a good, community event and every year we get new people coming from out of town," he said.
"I don't think anyone's ever had a bad experience."
While it might have been possible to run the competition come November, the tournament takes an immense amount of planning and when it came to booking venues ahead of time, none of the facilities were able to confirm whether or not they would be able to host large crowds.
"We rely a lot on those sponsors and a lot of them have been hit very hard," he said.
"We wanted to book spots for things like presentations and we couldn't even do that.
"The restrictions are always changing and it's a lot of work to do to pull the pin last minute."
As for now, all Lyne and the committee can do is fix their eyes on the 2021 version of the event, one he hopes will be the best one yet.
"Hopefully next year will be bigger and better than ever," he said.
"We have a meeting in November and we'll go from there."
