Artist Fleur MacDonald transformed the traditional form into something extraordinary in her latest exhibition titled Based on a True Story.
Gallery owner Leiarna Dunworth said she is excited to showcase the artwork.
"The exhibition will feature 45 pieces and it's something different and quirky," she said.
"I got in touch with the artist through Larrisa Blake who previously had her artwork in the gallery.
"The artwork will feature intricately painted doilies in all sizes with carved shapes found from wooden serving bowls and platters."
According to Ms MacDonald, doily making is a deceptively complex skill requiring
sophisticated mathematical calculations, pattern interpretation and manual
dexterity to achieve the complex pattern of the finished decorative item.
Mrs Dunworth said it was a hard time to exhibit work during the coronavirus lockdown but she pulled through.
"The COVID-19 period was interesting because a lot people at home who were took the time to build, renovate and landscape because we weren't allowed to travel," she said.
"I believe it got people thinking about how they can update their walls with with artwork.
"Previously, I didn't have an online store but when COVID hit I set one up and so far we have been doing a fantastic job selling works."
The gallery is located on 54 Peisley St and the exhibition will run until August 29.
