NBL's United sign ex-Duke skipper White

White spent four years in Duke University's prestigious basketball program playing alongside the likes of last year's No.1 NBA draft pick Zion Williamson and NBA All-Star Jayson Tatum - who are now among the league's brightest young stars.

The 22-year-old White captained Duke in his final two years in their program, while his honours included making the All-ACC Academic team two years in a row.

United swooped to sign White, who is originally from Traralgon, with several other NBL teams interested in his services.

"Jack is an exciting young prospect who has incredible potential, so to have him choose Melbourne United, and commit with a long-term deal is fantastic," United coach Dean Vickerman said.

"He is a leader, highly intelligent and a very hard worker.

"We believe Jack will have a strong impact both on and off the court and we are eager to help him grow as a player and person within our club's system and culture."

Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski, who has headed up the Blue Devils since 1980, praised the forward's work rate and attitude.

"Jack was just the best teammate ever, (a) hard worker - came to work every day," Krzyzewski said.

"One of the easiest kids to coach that I've had the opportunity to coach in my 45 years as a collegiate coach.

"A top-notch defender, rebounder and shot blocker - he does all the dirty work.

"Offensively, he'll be able to add and stretch a defence for you because he can hit his outside shot."

"(He's) a great competitor - not a good one - a great, great competitor and will add to Melbourne United's already good culture."
