Of all the strange upheavals to daily life during lockdown, having petrol cheaper than $1 at the petrol pump was one of the few nice changes among a thousand restrictive and uncomfortable measures.

As life slowly returns to normal petrol prices have also risen in turn as more people are back on the roads, but prices in Orange have risen far faster than other regional centres.
NRMA spokesperson Bridget Ahern said prices in Orange had risen about 12 cents on average, which she said was "a lot higher than other towns in the region" which wasn't giving motorists bang for their buck.
"For a while Orange had some of the cheapest fuel in the state down towards 80c a litre but oil prices have been rising, worldwide and at the wholesale price in Sydney and providers have passed it onto regional consumers," Ms Ahern said.
"In the case of Orange they might have passed it on more than they should have, compared to Bathurst you get $1.09 or $1.10 [a litre].
"Manildra is $1.09 [a litre] but once you get into Orange the cheapest is $1.18, which is considerably higher."
The most expensive fuel in Orange on Wednesday was over $1.28 a litre, which Ms Ahern said "you'd be crazy to pay 10c more for no reason".
The best course of action to find cheaper fuel? Use apps like the MrNRMA app to find the cheapest fuel in the area and shop there, with Ms Ahern saying if motorists refused to overpay, stations would have no choice but to drop their prices.
The reason prices had risen in Orange was "a bit of an enigma".
Some of them have put it up due to increased costs and it hasn't gone down just yet, the price has gone too high.
While she was hopeful prices would drop over coming days and weeks, the chance of having petrol as cheap as two months ago are next to non-existent.
"The days of 80c per litre fuel are well past us, as we emerge from our cocoons and as travel is allowed it's gone back up," Ms Ahern said.
"Hopefully it dips again but we won't see petrol below $1 any time soon."
