Across Orange, gyms have been implementing outdoor boot camps despite cold temperatures, and many are running online programs so people can exercise at home but they are yet to be given a date for reopening.
By 3.30pm on Tuesday, more than 13,000 people had signed the change.org petition calling for gyms to be able to reopened.
Integra Health Club manager Claire McMillan and Anytime Fitness Orange owner Pip Sanders were among those who were surprised the NSW government had not mentioned any dates for gyms to reopen.
"I'm a bit surprised and disappointed that we haven't been included in this," Miss McMillan said.
She said trainers have been running outdoor boot camps with sessions in the early morning, mid-morning and two in the afternoon.
"They are open to members and non-members and Fitness Passport holders, we take bookings by Facebook," Miss McMillan said.
She said the bootcamps have included up-to nine participants and a trainer since the government allowed outdoor gatherings of up to 10 people but she's looking forward to reopening.
"All of our staff have done COVID safe, we've asked all our staff to do a certificate of knowledge in infection control training," Miss McMillan said.
She said the gym also has cleaning procedures and hand sanitiser in place as well as marked places on the floor for when indoor exercise classes can resume.
Ms Sanders said she signed the petition and asked everyone she knows to sign it.
"It's like they are forgetting about the future of this industry all together," she said.
"Why can't they at least give us a date?"
She said the Anytime Fitness franchise has a free app to help people maintain diet and exercise at home and personal trainers from the Orange gym were running boot camps.
"[However] If people don't have equipment at home there's only so much you can do, there's only so much bodyweight things you can do or going for a jog before it gets boring," Ms Sanders said.
She said the cold weather also deterred many people from exercising outside.
Ms Sanders said preparations are being put in place for when the gym can reopen and machines will be spaced apart and signage and sanitation stations will be set up.
