After a few months of home schooling and children being at home, on Monday most students were allowed to head back to schools across NSW.
Orange Public School principal Brad Tom said he'd "loved" having children back.
"The school and the community are more than ready for the recommencement of school full-time," he said.
"Once we've got the students in, the rest of the community can get on and move forward, and the learning of the students - while it wasn't impacted in the provision of education opportunity - it isn't the same as face-to-face teaching so it's good to be back."
Mr Tom had been "overwhelmed" by families' ability to tackle schoolwork from home, which he said was a credit both to teachers and parents.
"Coming back into the school environment parents will feel not so much relieved as a sense of satisfaction that they've been able to keep their own education coming forward," he said.
Xavier Lyden has been back at school this term, but was stoked to have his friends walk through the gates on Monday morning.
He did three weeks of home learning and said while it was "alright" at home with his parents, school was "much better with friends around".
"My favourite part is probably playing with my friends and playing basketball at lunch," he said.
Member for Calare Andrew Gee said it was important to have students return.
"I think we're all delighted to have kids back at school and it's important to have them back as the research has shown almost half of children are at risk of poor educational and emotional health outcomes through online and remote learning even with the best will in the world," he said.
"Everyone has made an extraordinary effort over the time but the reality is it's not the same as face-to-face teaching."
