Ablaze Firewood owner Andrew Gordon and I've Got Wood owner Peter Blunt said there were more wood orders earlier than usual.
"It's been up and down but mostly pretty busy," Mr Gordon said.
"I was busy for a month then it got quiet for week and then the cold snap hit and got everyone thinking about it again," he said.
"I probably did double last week than the previous week.
"You've got the organised ones then those that wait until it gets really cold."
However, Mr Gordon said his customers weren't generally buying more than their usual orders.
"They sort of did a little bit when the virus first came, people ordered a little bit more, now it's just business as usual," he said.
I think with the virus people were buying bigger loads, April was extremely busy.

He said people not having a lot of money or storage space contributed to how much wood they could order.
"With people being at home there's every change I'll be busier," Mr Gordon said.
"If you are at work all day you will have your fire on low but at home you might have it turned up."
Mr Gordon said he supplies hardwood sourced from the Cobar area because he's had success with western timber before due to it being denser and drying out faster than some other varieties.
Mr Blunt from I've Got Wood said he was also a lot busier earlier in the season with people buying larger loads of wood than normal due to staying home for coronavirus restrictions.
"It was very busy earlier, it slowed down a bit this week," Mr Blunt said.
"I think with the virus people were buying bigger loads, April was extremely busy.
"It has been a completely different year, I've been doing wood for eight years.
"It was nearly impossible to keep up."
Mr Blunt said as an essential service wood deliveries would not stop through the winter.
However, if it is a wet season there could be issues in getting the wood to Orange from where it comes from further west.
He said there is no shortage at the moment but he is still waiting for four semi truck loads that were delayed by rain.
