A 36-year-old man was due to appear in Dubbo Local Court on Monday charged with a string of offences following a police pursuit.

Police will allege officers attached to Chifley Police District were patrolling the Bathurst CBD about 7.45pm on Friday, May 1 when they saw a Holden Commodore on Rocket Street.

Checks revealed the registration plates did not match the vehicle.

When the Holden stopped at a service station on Stewart Street, officers approached the vehicle on foot.

Police will allege the vehicle reversed and then drove directly towards the officers, hitting a senior constable who landed on the bonnet.

Police allege the driver continued to drive away and the officer was thrown from the vehicle, landing on the ground.

The officer sustained minor injuries and was taken to Bathurst Hospital for treatment.

More officers were called to help and attempted to stop the Holden on Peel Street, however, police allege the vehicle again failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated.

The vehicle was pursued through several Bathurst streets and is alleged to have hit a police vehicle before stopping near a unit complex on Rocket Street.

The driver fled on foot and was found a short distance away hiding under a stairwell in the unit complex.

The 36-year-old man was arrested and taken to Bathurst police station where he was charged with a string of offences including police pursuit, not stopping and driving dangerously (Skye's law); driving unlicensed; driving recklessly/furiously at speed/in manner dangerous; using an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention; resisting an officer in execution of their duty; driving an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle.

The man was refused bail and held in custody over the weekend before a scheduled appearance in Dubbo Local Court yesterday.
