GOVERNMENT help for renters may have come just in time for tenants in Orange with new data showing the city has the highest median asking rent in the region.

The median cost of renting a home in Orange is now $380 a week which represents a 1.3 per cent increase on 12 months ago, and a 16.9 per cent jump compared to five years ago.
The Domain Rental Report for the March 2020 quarter shows the median rental costs for homes and units across the region and how they have changed during the past few years.
The report shows that Bathurst's median rental costs has remained stable during the past year at $360 a week, however, this is a 9.1 per cent jump on the $330 renters paid five years ago.
While in Dubbo, the median rent for a home is $350 a week, which is up 2.9 per cent on a year ago, and 6.1 per cent on five years ago.
When comparing the median price of renting a unit, Orange also tops the list in the Central West at $275 a week.
This represents an increase of $10 a week (3.8 per cent) on one year ago, and a jump of $45 (19.6 per cent) on the cost of renting a unit five years ago.
The median cost of renting a unit in Dubbo is $268 a week, while in Bathurst it is $260.
Other towns in the Central West are much cheaper by comparison, including Parkes where people looking to rent a home will pay a median of $320 a week.
In Lithgow the price drops to $300, in Forbes the median cost is $290 and in Cowra it is $263.
On Monday, NSW Better Regulation Minister Kevin Anderson said many residential tenants had been significantly impacted by the coronavirus.
He said renters would have greater protection from eviction as the NSW Government puts $440 million towards rent relief in the form of land tax waivers or rebates, however the move has been slammed by the Labor opposition.
