Police said the 72-year-old cyclist died in Westmead Hospital on Wednesday afternoon shortly after being airlifted there from Bathurst Base Hospital.
An off-duty ambulance officer, off-duty police officer and off-duty nurse were among the first witnesses at the scene and all assisted the cyclist until an ambulance arrived.
The driver of the SUV, a 34-year-old Windradyne woman, was uninjured and taken to Bathurst Base Hospital for mandatory testing before being taken to Bathurst police station as a crime scene was established at the site of the crash.
The driver was later charged with dangerous driving occasioning death (drive manner dangerous) and negligent driving (occasioning death).
The woman was granted conditional bail to appear before Bathurst Local Court on Monday, June 22.
A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
