Jeffrey Robert Grindrod, 57, of McKay Road, Clergate, was driving along Bathurst Road about 12.50am on January 5, 2020, when he was stopped by police.
He tested negative to alcohol and drugs but his car was searched due to intelligence police had about him and his passengers.
During the search police found the tin containing 0.1 grams of cannabis under the driver's side seat.
Grindrod told police he didn't remember putting the cannabis in the car but he did store it in tobacco tins so it must have belonged to him.
He submitted a written guilty plea to the court and was fined $330.
