Orange City Council held a reception for the group on Tuesday morning, but Orange High School principal Chad Bliss said it had been one event in a complete program.
"They've been in Canberra for the last few days - they visited the Australian War Memorial and learned about the history of Australia," he said.
"They've been to Questacon for a science day and ... the Japanese garden at Cowra."
The students are staying with host families from Orange High School and Mr Bliss said it was an ideal opportunity for the school's Japanese language students to hone their skills.
"We've been able to reciprocate visitors for the past 30 years and it is an important opportunity to share their culture and experiences," he said.
Mr Bliss said the sister city relationship between Orange and Ushiku played a crucial role in maintaining the exchanges and the visitors were lucky to see the region after some rain.
"It's greener than it looked three months ago," he said.
Mr Bliss did not comment on the coronavirus issue, while James Sheahan Catholic High School has decided to delay its April Japan and Sri Lanka trips.
