ROAD spikes had to be used to stop a BMW that was fleeing from police in the Blue Mountains on the weekend.
At 5.30pm on Saturday Blue Mountains Highway Patrol officers, acting on information in relation to a possible unlicensed driver in the Blaxland area, attempted to stop a black BMW sedan on the Great Western Highway in Blaxland.
The driver of the BMW ignored the police direction to stop and a pursuit was initiated westbound along the Great Western Highway.
The pursuit continued to Faulconbridge where police successfully deployed road spikes.
The BMW drove a further 1.5 kilometres before it came to a stop.
The driver then attempted to flee police on foot, however was arrested a short distance from his vehicle.
The 27-year-old male driver was searched at the scene where a small quantity of drugs were located.
The male was taken to Springwood Police Station.
The male already on bail for numerous other traffic offences was charged and bail refused to appear before Penrith Local Court on Sunday.
