Having the Blues is a Real Drag organiser Ashlee Maguire was delighted with the support for the Beyond Blue fundraiser and competition in which winner Scott Preston was named queen.
Ms Maguire said she was hoping to raise $10,000 for the mental health support non-profit organisation, however, with help from community members and businesses the event raised $18,216.
She said Orange City Bowling Club donated the venue and staff and there were only two expenses for the fundraiser, public liability insurance and the winners sashes, so all proceeds would go to Beyond Blue.
"I did a drag show because I thought what is a really great talking point and it was something to get people talking about and it would be fun and something exciting to get people involved with," Ms Maguire said.
"The main thing was it was going to be fun.
"It was good to see how close knit the community is."
The event, which was held at Orange City Bowling Club included six competitors, Mr Preston, Dr David Howe, Matt Jeffery, Stacey Carthew, Ms Maguire and her brother Jack, who travelled from South Australia to take part. Plans are now underway for another event next year.
