Connor Whiteley and Tom Tudor were tight all day Saturday at Gosling Creek in the Orange leg of the Central West Inter Club Triathlon series, but in the end it was Whiteley who was first over the line.

The Orange born but Sydney based athlete got away from Tudor on the first run of the run-bike-run event, but the younger rival caught him on the bike in the modified duathlon.
However, Whiteley got away on the second and final running leg, crossing the line in 0:59:37, just under a minute quicker than Tudor's 1:00:33 to claim an Orange one-two punch, ahead of Mudgee's Matt Webster (1:05:18).
Whiteley said he enjoyed the "slightly different" format with the water unavailable to due high algae levels.
"I know my run's stronger than my bike so I wanted to get as much of a lead up as I could on that first run," he said.
"I was looking around my shoulder for the first part of the bike so I knew where he was, he was close enough on the run there and when he came past I was doing my best to hang on as much as I could."
Whiteley had a 34-second lead heading into the bike leg, but Tudor shaved 21 seconds off his ride to be just behind him when the two were back pounding pavement.
"We were fairly close for most of the ride there and then on the run back to my strength," Whiteley said.
The 20-year-old said he enjoyed coming back out to Orange to compete with the Piranhas.
"I love coming back here, it's great to be a part of the inter-club series and support the Orange club," he said.
"The new surface was really good, on the bike we didn't see a lot of it, it'll be good to get out on a short track it'll be really good for that.
"Even for running, over the back was a bit bumpy the last few times I've been out here but it was much better."
Whiteley has been training in Sydney, where he's living while studying, but he has his eyes set on the Davenport triathlon in a fortnight in Tasmania, with that event part of the Oceania Cup series.
Beau Rohr claimed the Super Sprint in a win for Mudgee in 44 minutes flat, ahead of clubmate Riley Taylor in 0:47:30 and Orange's Simon Lun in third at 0:50:30.
