More than 2000 homes and businesses lost power just before 4.30pm - networks in west Orange and Clifton Grove were struck by lightning and switched themselves off.
Those customers had their power restored just before 7.30pm and 8pm respectively after patrols were completed along the network.
Essential Energy Macquarie operations manager Jamie Warren said a tree fell on powerlines at south Orange due to strong winds, which then caused a fault current to hit a substation and 926 customers lost power.
"After assessing the damage affecting customers in the south of Orange, crews rerouted the electricity network around the damaged substation and restored power to 497 customers at 6.48pm and a further 306 customers at 6.57pm," he said.
However, 123 customers at the lower end of Anson Street, including Boronia Crescent, Heath Place, Sharp Road and Grevillea Street, remained without power throughout the night.
Mr Warren said crews were testing cables on the high voltage electricity network on Monday and hoped to progressively restore power by late in the afternoon.
